In Real Vanilla: Nature’s Unsung Hero, Janet Sawyer MBE BEM, LittlePod’s Managing Director and founder, tells of the company’s 15-year mission to save REAL vanilla – a precious crop of environmental importance that was at risk of being lost forever.

Having developed LittlePod’s innovative natural vanilla paste in a tube, Janet has spearheaded the Campaign for Real Vanilla, educating consumers about vanilla’s value to the planet and supporting farming communities in the world’s Equatorial regions.

In this, her second book, Janet goes behind the scenes with the farmers at LittlePod’s forest orchard in Indonesia, details the pioneering polyculture system that has increased biodiversity, improved soil fertility, and regenerated the rainforest environment, and tells of a promise made and a promise fulfilled.

This is a fascinating story of how one determined woman used the ‘empty nest’ time in her life to build a campaigning company, whilst learning about biodiversity, supporting farmers’ livelihoods and creating a family of human relationships across the world.
